After presenting live entertainment on Cape Cod and the Islands for several years, Spectacle Management has launched its Cape Cod Spotlight Series. Performances for the Summer/Fall 2018 Series have been confirmed, and the lineup for the Winter/Spring 2019 Series will be announced in early November.
“We are very excited to be launching the Cape Cod Spotlight Series and are very grateful for the supportive audiences that have come to our shows over the past five years,” says Peter M. Lally, president of Spectacle Management. “The spotlight series is the natural evolution of our endeavors in live entertainment on Cape Cod and the Islands.”
With shows ranging from classic rock and folk music, musical comedy and holiday music, to an extraordinary afternoon of reflection on the legacy of JFK through song and film, the performances slated for the Summer/Fall 2018 Series were chosen for their wide appeal. And with venues on both Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and multiple venues on Cape Cod, all of which were chosen for their exceptional acoustics and intimate appeal, residents of the Cape and Islands will be able to enjoy first-rate entertainment year-round.
Performances scheduled for the summer include Judy Collins, at the Old Whaling Church on Martha’s Vineyard (7/18/2018) and the Mary Walker Auditorium on Nantucket (7/20), and Gordon Lightfoot (8/2) and Peter Sagal, the host of NPR’s “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me” (8/26), at the Barnstable High School (BHS) Performing Arts Center.
The Cape Cod Spotlight Series will continue through the fall and winter months, with an array of performances scheduled at the BHS Performing Arts Center, and the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College.
On September 30th, Mary Wilson, of The Supremes, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, will bring together a kaleidoscope of Motown music memories, including hits such as “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “Where Did Our Love Go” and “Heat Wave,” in one rich afternoon performance at the BHS Performing Arts Center.
“JFK and Me,” on October 27th at the BHS Performing Arts Center, will be of significant interest to the Cape Cod community. This multi-media concert, a tribute to the life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy, stars Emmy® Nominated international tenor Michael Londra. Raised in the home county of the Kennedy family in Ireland, Michael was asked by the Irish government to sing at the graveside of President Kennedy in 2013 to commemorate the visit JFK made to Ireland just months before his assassination. Michael then hosted a concert in Ireland to celebrate the visit, performing with Judy Collins for the President’s daughter Caroline and many of his relatives.
Presented by Venueworks Theatrical, with the cooperation of the JFK Trust and the Kennedy Summer School, Michael remembers the Kennedy origins and the rise of a political dynasty. He celebrates the Kennedy legacy, performing newly written songs and the family’s favorite Irish songs. His performance will be paired with rarely seen footage of JFK’s trip to Ireland.
On November 18th, it’s all about memory loss, hot flashes and night sweats when “Menopause the Musical” comes to the BHS Performing Arts Center. Two shows are planned for the holiday season with Ronnie Spector’s “Best Christmas Party Ever!” at the Tilden Arts Center on December 16th, and “Canadian Brass: Christmas Time is Here” on December 20th at the BHS Performing Arts Center.
“The people on the Cape and Islands have been so supportive of the artists that come to the area, and we feel fortunate to have the opportunity to bring together artist and audience via the Cape Cod Spotlight Series,” says Lally of the upcoming roster.
